1. Interlink - Creating a Regional Network for Good Design.
Interlink is being delivered as a joint initiative between arc and beam on behalf of Integreat Yorkshire exploring the development of a Yorkshire and Humber Design Champion's network. Local Authority senior officers and councillors who are engaged in design, regeneration and place-making are invited to join us on our next Interlink visit:
The one-day site visit offers Yorkshire Lead Officers, Elected Members and Design Champions the valuable opportunity to experience the work of other national towns and cities, and to hear from leading experts in design, procurement and project management.

2. 'Better by Design'
Design & Heritage Champion Training Programme for the Humber Sub-region (Dates to be confirmed – April – June 08)
arc is scheduling a new season of training workshops for Lead Officers, Elected Members and Design Champions. The workshops provide in-depth knowledge and skills development in the value and impact of good design, methods of evaluation and ‘benchmarking', and strategies for ensuring design quality in public and private building and public space. The workshop days include case study, peer discussion, guest presenters and a one day site visit.Through a series of professional workshops, visits and master classes with key architects and urban designers, participants will:

arc is delivering a training seminar, developed by CABE and English Heritage, to develop skills and knowledge in Local Authority teams to deliver and evaluate quality contemporary design in historic contexts. The day has been developed with the support of architect David Crease.
5. Design Awareness for Renaissance Market Towns
Knaresborough. 6 March 08, 10am – 4pm
Barnsley. 27 March 08, 10am – 4pm
The one-day training seminar is aimed at the Lead Officers and Elected Members of Yorkshire’s Renaissance Market Towns, and will enable participants to share their experiences, and develop skills in working with a range of design issues relevant to their place. Contributors to the day include Helen Farrar – CABE regional representative, and Architect Tom Londsdale.
The Design Awareness day has been is commissioned from arc by Intergreat Yorkshire.

Interlink 1. 12 september 2007 - Upper Calder Valley
for more information on the visit to the Upper Calder Valley
This was an great days activity and included a tour of The Collection, guided by Simon Hudspith of Panter Hudspith (The Collection architects) and talk by Simon about its design and historic setting. We also looked at The Drill Hall and The Terrace as well as enjoying a networking lunch. (more details below)
Interlink 3. 12 february 2008 - Leicester
The third regional Interlink event visited the cultural quarter of Leicester on tues 12 feb and focussed on the LCB Depot and the new Performing Arts Centre. The day offered an excellent opportunity to hear from key people involved in the development of the cultural quarter, joining them on guided tours and plenty of time for networking with colleagues from other local authorities.
Better by Design - a four-day training programme hosted by arc resulting from a successful pilot in 2006 from which arc received excellent feedback.
Local Authority Design and Historical Environment Champion Training programme - June/July/Aug 2007
supported by Integreat Yorkshire
Day One - 12 June 2007- visit to York, including facilitated walk led by Simon Hudspith, focussing on Borders building and City Screen.
Day Two - 10 July 2007- full day visit to Newcastle - included speakers from Gateshead & Newcastle councils, plus CEO of ngi. - plus facilitated walks around Baltic, Sage, Millennium Bridge and Grainger Town.
Day Three - 18 July 2007- based at arc, looked at the value of urban design, masterplanning etc. Speakers included Duncan Berntsen and Rob Cowan.
Day Four - 29 August 2007- based at arc, looked at evaluating design quality and the tools needed by a Design Champion. Included presentation and guided visit by Mindy Hadi of BRE (DQI facilitator) who talked about stakeholders and explained the DQI process.
