'Looking East for fluid ideas' was a series of events held in October 2010, comprising of a 'knowledge exchange' for professionals, and a public exhibition held at Arc.

" a real eye-opener for me onto the decisions, discussions and opportunities that are made, surround and exist in the world of architecture and cityscaping. Absolutely fascinating "

Dennis Low

The three-day knowledge-sharing event, held from 5 - 7 October 2010, encompassed:

  • Living with water seminar 1 - Design and flood-risk management
  • Living with water seminar 2 - Sustainable architectural and public realm solutions
  • Urban tour
  • Design charette*
  • Networking evenings held at the Arc building and another local venue

*The 'design charette' aimed to:

  • Use a local case study to explore and present design principles and best practice on housing and flooding.
  • Come up with a menu of design principles and best practice. A set of parameters for developing an area which will inform and help with the development of the Area Action Plan/s (AAP) and will inform further regeneration strategies
  • To establish benchmarks for good design
  • Create a platform and opportunities for information sharing
  • Demonstrate good practice and peer review
  • Provide skills training for design champions

The public exhibition ran from 27 September - 15 October 2010 at the Arc building.

Comprehensive information on the events and the exhibition, including interactive presentations from the various speakers, can be found on our 'fluid ideas' blog.
