Arc has held the following public design reviews in Hull:

Fruit Market: 19 November 2009Hull Fruit Market - Design Brief image

On 19 November we held our third public design review, this time in partnership with Hull Forward.  The panel considered the revised design brief for the regeneration of Hull's historic Fruit Market.  The two hour session was held in Arc's own iconic building which is situated at the entrance to the Fruit Market area.  At the event the public had the opportunity to speak to staff from Hull Forward and to view an exhibition of the proposals which was housed in the Arc building.

West Park: 25 August 2009

In partnership with Gateway, we held a further design review day on 25 August - the second time we have opened the doors of our design review meetings to the public. Under review this time were the regeneration plans for West Park in Hull. The day commenced with a public walkabout in the park accompanied by the design review panel and by the project design team, who were able to explain the analysis that had take place as part of the design process,  In the afternoon, the regeneration plans were presented and discussed at a two-hour design review session observed by members of the public. The session was followed by an open question and answer session where the public were able to make their own views heard. The review was held at the Carnegie Heritage Centre: a fascinating building located at the main park entrance. The event was well-attended by local community groups and was featured in the local press.

Arc also held 'Arts in the Park' - a public celebration of West Park. For more information please see the learning archive.

In partnership with Gateway, Hull and East Yorkshire's housing pathfinder renewal programme, we invited the public to a two-day event where they were able to sit in on the design review panel looking at proposals for a housing regeneration scheme on the site of the former Amy Johnson School.  Members of the public were able to observe two two-hour sessions considering landscape and housing issues.   At the end of each session was an open slot with the opportunity for residents and the public to ask questions or feedback their views. This was the first time that members of the public had a chance to see the design review process, and it was welcomed by design review panel manager Jo Byrne: "It's the first time that we've done this. It is exciting for us because it means that the public have the chance to actually come and see the designers in operation and to find out how the process works"

Most design review sessions are not open to the public, this was the first time that the client body, (in this case Gateway Pathfinder Hull), had participated in an open session. The event was filmed in June at a venue local to the Amy Johnson regeneration site.

A video of the day can be viewed here.
